Honesty is the best policy!
Our value of the term is honesty. We read the story of Pinocchio and learnt that when he lied his nose grew. We created a display that talked about honesty and what we have done to show honesty.

Opening of Te Puna Ako
Today we had the official opening of the learning centre - Te Puna Ako. We are looking forward to now starting to use it.

Visiting Araiteuru Marae
After the powhiri finished we broke out into different activity groups. Some of the activities that we completed were poi, kowhaiwhai patterns and Maori games.
We had a lot of fun and learnt a lot of new things. Thank you to our tutors at the Marae and to all of those parents that came to help us.

Making hot chocolate
Today we made hot chocolate as part of our writing unit. We are learning to write instructions. Keep an eye on our writing blog for the finished instructions. They will be coming soon!
Marae Waiata to practise
Room 9 here is a copy of the Maori Waiata that we will sing at the Marae on Tuesday. Try to practise these before then.
Noah - Our rugby coach!
Noah's learning commitment goal was to coach the class on some rugby skills. Today we had a fun session learning how to catch and kick the rugby ball.

Strength Goals
We have been busy trying to work on, and complete, our strength goals that we set in Term One.
Meg has a strength in baking and as part of her goal, she baked cupcakes and brought them to school to share with the class. They were delicious!
Maya was an amazing teacher, and taught the class some origami. She taught us to make flickers and paper boxes / water bombs.

Finalists!
Well done to our wonderful oral language finalists - Isabelle, Maya and Thanuja. You all did an amazing job and should feel very proud of yourselves.
In the Year 4 competition, Thanuja managed to get third place and Maya was the winner of this year group.

Super shapes!
Today we made 3-D shapes out of toothpicks and marshmallows. The toothpicks were the edges and the marshmallows were the corners.

Congratulations to our oral language finalists!
We had to select two Year-three and two Year-four children to go into the Middle Team Oral Language Competition next week.
Everyone did an amazing job and it was very hard to pick only four finalists!

Whoooo knows how to show kindness?
We created some wise old owls. Each of them has a message on their front that tells us a really good way to show kindness. Come into our classroom to read some of the great ideas.

Strength Goals - the race has begun!
The race towards reaching our strengths goals has begun. Every time we do a little bit towards our goal, our car moves along the racing track. When our goals are achieved our cars will cross the finish line.

Give-it-a-go day
Today the Middle Team went to the Edgar Centre to participate in a Give-it-a-go day. We rotated around lots of interesting sporting activities - rippa, basketball, gymnastics, netball, hockey and football.

Kindness
Our value of the term is 'Kindness'. We have been talking a lot about what 'kindness' is and how we can show it in our actions and what we do.
For homework we had to create a poem, rap, song or poster that shows what we know about kindness.
Isaac wrote a song about kindness and shared it with the class. It was awesome and we were all so impressed!

Tarun's Solar System
Our letter of the week for homework was the letter 'S'. We had many wonderful projects. Tarun brought a model of the solar system and shared this with us.
Anzac Day Field of Remembrance
We have been talking a lot about Anzac Day and the importance of this year being the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. The senior children put together a 'Field of Remembrance' that holds crosses for past pupils of George Street school that lost their lives as part of the war.

Otago Dancers
Today we had a visit from the Otago Dancers. They are offering dance lessons during the holidays, and after seeing the performance, many of us are keen to attend. They did some awesome dancing!

Super Fantastic Highlanders
Today we had a visit from some of the Highlanders. Here we are with Ash Dixon, Josh Renton and Shaun Treeby. Thank you Highlanders - you have some huge fans in Room 9.

Mad Scientist
Today we went to a show in the hall called 'The Mad World of Science'. We got to see exploding potions, magical floating balls and enormous bubbles.
